I am passionate about the value of continuing the age old craft of wheel formed tableware. There is such satisfaction to be found using hand made functional ware for every day use, the way it can complete and compliment our daily culinary rituals. Currently I produce a range of stoneware pots for the table including teacups, teapots and bowls. I have been exploring slips, slip trailing and stamping to build up the surface with a colour range of greens, yellows and white; or clear glaze. In 2007 I commenced teaching at Hornsby TAFE, it is fantastic watching a student new to the wheel slowly draw all the techniques together and produce their first set of bowls. I hope to inspire the beginner student enough to carry on potting; or conversely become an appreciative patron. I have been associated with the ceramic departments at both Brookvale and Hornsby TAFE for numerous years, completing a Diploma of Ceramics in 2002 and going on to work full time as a technical assistant at both campuses for 4 years. I spent time in 2001 & 2002 working as a studio assistant for Chris James in his then Wahroonga studio. I am working on an additional body of work, finding inspiration in the cross cultural processes of building up of motifs creating rhythmical patterns, which I believe are grounding and enduring. My wall panels are an exploration of this and of symmetry, beauty and movement. I hope to evoke a sense of unity, with intention to lull the viewer toward someplace familiar. My home and studio is at Point Clare on the Central Coast.
