The inspiration behind my work remains very much the traditional pottery of ancient China and Japan. The connection evolved over many years of living in Japan, as well as a lot of time spent travelling extensively in China. This inspiration expresses itself in an acknowledgement of traditional forms and the use of traditional oriental glazes. These present a palette for the potter to work with, applying their own stamp of originality, arrived at through an expressionistic playing with shapes and blending of glaze colours to create something new that still harks back to the beauty of those ancient pots. |
