My workshop is in Heathcote East bordering the Royal where I produce glazed stoneware and porcelain and unglazed coloured porcelain pieces. Copper red glazes have fascinated me for years and unlike other glazes, I have never become bored or un-interested as I never feel I really have it under control.
I walk the bush most days and this influences my use of coloured porcelain, particularly the agate pots - some based on the snow gums of Kosciuszko and others showing the devastation of the 1994 bushfires so close to home.
The polished porcelain work I have been making recently is a change of direction as I have rarely made really fine felicate work before. The clay is polished with various grades of emery and a clear glaze is applied to the area being lustres. It is then fired to cone 10 bending, then polished again, and the lustre is applied and fired.
